ASCENT OF MT. ELBRUS
(12- and 10-day variants, Normal Route from South)

In summer 2011 the South side of Mount Elbrus (Terskol Village and the upper part of the Baksan Valley) was closed for tourists and we were forced to move our programmes from the South to the North side of Mt. Elbrus. The normal climbing route from the North has the same technical difficulty but that area is less comfortable for climbers because there are no hotels, shops, ski-lifts, snow-ploughs, etc there. Also, the North side route takes more time for approaching. That is why an ascent of Elbrus from the North requires more days than from the South.

The South side of Mt. Elbrus was open on November 5, 2011 but nobody knows if the South side will be open in summer 2012 or not. To avoid possible problems we offer you to provide for two variants of your Elbrus trip and to use the programme shown below as the main variant and our North side programme as a reserve variant for your ascent of Elbrus in summer 2012. If the South side is closed, it will be easy enough to replace the South side variant with the North side variant because they both have the same duration and prices.
