MOUNTAINEERING AND ASCENT OF MT. ELBRUS
(20-day variant, Normal Route from South)

Many beautiful peaks surround Mt. Elbrus and this region is the most frequented area in the Central Caucasus. A lot of rock, mixed and snow-ice climbing routes of any degree of difficulty give very nice possibilities for mountaineering in the Baksan Valley and its side canyons.

Period of the programme: June - September

Programme:
day 1 - arrival in Moscow; transfer airport - hotel; night at a hotel
day 2 - breakfast; transfer hotel - airport; flight Moscow - Mineralnye Vody; transfer Mineralnye Vody - Terskol Village (~ 180 km); dinner; night at a hotel
day 3 - breakfast; hike to the Cheget Glade (~ 2100 m); elevating by the Cheget Cableway to the upper station (~ 3050 m); hike up along the ridge or to the top of Mt. Cheget (3410 m); coming back to the hotel; lunch; dinner; night at the hotel
day 4 - breakfast; transfer hotel - Narzan Glade (~ 2000 m); hike up to the Kogutay Bivouac (~ 2600 m) in the upper part of the Kogutay Canyon; night in tents
day 5 - ascent of Mt. Bolshoy (Great) Kogutay (3891 m) or Mt. Maly (Little) Kogutay (3850 m) and descent to the Kogutay Bivouac; night in tents
day 6 - coming back to the hotel; lunch; dinner; night at the hotel
day 7 - breakfast; rest in the Baksan Valley; lunch; dinner; night at the hotel
day 8 - breakfast; transfer hotel - Djantugan Alpine Base; hike up to the Green Hotel Bivouac (~ 2400 m) in the upper part of the Adylsu Valley; night in tents
day 9 - ascent of Mt. Viatau (3820 m), Mt. Trapezium (3740 m) or Mt. Gumachi (3805 m); coming down to the campsite; night in tents
day 10 - rest or ice-climbing on the Bashkara Glacier; night in tents
day 11 - ascent of Djantugan Peak (3991 m); coming down to the campsite; night in tents
day 12 - coming back to the hotel; lunch; dinner; night at the hotel
day 13 - breakfast; rest and preparing for Elbrus climbing; lunch; dinner; night at the hotel
day 14 - breakfast; transfer hotel - Azau Glade; elevating by the Elbrus Cableway to the Garabashi Station (~ 3750 m); hike up to the ruins of the Priyut of 11 Hut (~ 4050 m) and descent to the Garabashi Station; night in tents
day 15 - acclimatization hike up to the Pastukhov Rocks (~ 4700 m) and descent to Camp 4300 m; night in tents
day 16 - ascent of the Western (5642 m) or Eastern (5621 m) summit of Mt. Elbrus and descent to Camp 4300 m; night in tents
day 17 - coming back to the hotel; lunch; dinner; night at the hotel
day 18 - reserve day for the bad weather / breakfast; free time in the Baksan Valley; lunch; dinner; night at the hotel
day 19 - breakfast; transfer Terskol Village - Mineralnye Vody; flight Mineralnye Vody - Moscow; transfer airport - hotel; night at the hotel
day 20 - breakfast; transfer hotel - airport; departure from Moscow
