INDONESIAN ELBRUS NORTH - 2011 EXPEDITION

At the middle of August the Indonesia Disabled Expedition worked on the North side of Elbrus. The expedition included Mr. Sabar, a disabled climber without one leg. Our partners from Alpindustria Company served the expedition in the Caucasus and they invited our mountain guide Mr. Viktor Ershov to help them with escorting of Mr. Sabar to the top of Mt. Elbrus.

Two Russian guides - Mr. Sergey Baranov and Mr. Viktor Ershov - escorted Mr. Sabar during his way up and down. The climbing route to the Western Summit of Mt. Elbrus from the North is very long and besides a camp on 3800 m Russian guides were forced to install an additional storming camp on Lenz Rocks on the altitude about 4800 m to have a good chance for the disabled climber to reach the summit within one day. On August 16 after a very hard climb Sabar and his Russian guides Sergey Baranov and Viktor Ershov reached the Western Summit of Mount Elbrus (5642 m) at 16:30. It was the first time when a person without a leg reached the top of Mt. Elbrus!
