THE PAMIRS

The Pamirs (the Roof of the World) is a unique high mountain complex located primarily in Tadjikistan. It is a veritable ocean of mountains with dizzying peaks, snow-capped spires and towers, ice rivers and hanging glaciers. The region is the hub of Asia from which the world's highest ranges radiate: the Hindu Kush to the south-west and south, the Karakoram and Himalayas to the south-east, the Kun-Lun to the east and Tien-Shan to the north-east.

Three of five highest mountains of the former Soviet Union are located in the Pamirs: Communism Peak (7495 m), Lenin Peak (7134 m) and Korzhenevskaya Peak (7105 m). The ascents of these peaks are very hard high-altitude climbs. For the success of the climbs mountaineers should be in very good physical conditions, well acclimatized and have a serious climbing experience.
